The dying arctic plankton and dying coral reefs in the Pacific are
not dying from "air pollution" or water pollution per se. They are
dying from the increase in CO2 and the increase in water
temperature. This is not to say scrubbers and other pollution
control measures are bad, but rather they don't address the most
significant anthropogenic problem - CO2 production by the burning of
fossil fuels.
I've heard of the dead area, it's said to be devoid of oxygen. The
increased CO2 is said to have decreased the PH of the water. The death
of the coral could be the result of that, or other chemicals in the
ocean water, which is right at the bottom of what we're doing to the
environment.
