Fran, Yes and no. What you say can and will be done, in principle ... don't misunderstand, but the key difference is that you have to drop the "sealed" part or the equation - in order to get the engine to produce net torque and self-power. This is the key issue: it cannot be sealed. The Rohner engine is still a heat engine and you have to treat it is such, thermodynamically. The Rohner's (and Papp to a lesser extent) made the bone-headed assumption that this is not a heat engine. In Papp's case, he used radium - a highly radioactive materials that was not illegal at the time to use, and maybe his original version was some kind of a novel nuclear hybrid, if it was not also a scam. Many think it too was a scam too BUT it does not matter now. If you drop the radioactive materials (as the Rohner's did) - you are left with what HAS TO BE a heat engine. With a heat engine, essentially the combustion chamber cannot be sealed. Yes - with a Mills' type of reaction, one can go close-cycled with a self-powered internal combustion engine, but NOT sealed - you must removed the hot gases on every rotation, cool the gases in a radiator, and then provide a manifold to return them in a loop to the intake, but with heat removed. That may sound like a small difference, but it is a HUGE difference thermodynamically. In that way, and that way only, do you avoid the thermodynamic issues that will ALWAYS keep Rohner's version from running for very long. There could be a bit of isothermal delay so that he may get 20-30 seconds of run-time, but that is it. The sealed combustion chamber is/was the dead give-away that Rohner was a fraud and was blowing hot-air (so to speak) to fleece investors. Jones
