I have my Renzetti Traveler model for 4th season now and its been great vise so far , my fishing improved as well becouse I tie better fly now.

I also build my own base and now have travler/home vise ( used lifting weight plate 2-5 lb , my friend with welding torch , welded small flange with wing nut, it works like champ.

Best wishes.

Subject: Re: Fly Vise Help

I upgraded my old Thompson vise last year to a Renzetti Traveler
pedestal (before the cam version was introduced) and I couldn't be
happier. I paid $120 or so for it.

It doesn't have the gleaming polished finish of its more expensive
siblings, but it performs exactly the same.

I've noticed that Cabelas' prices on some stuff can be fairly high
and the $159 you indicate for their cam traveler seems about $10
higher than I've seen it elsewhere. (Another example: I've got a
couple of Redington reels and Cabelas' price for spare spools is
about 25% higher than I've found them elsewhere.)

For an extra $15 or so, pick up the longer shaft available directly
from Renzetti. I added a Dyna King trim bag to mine and with the
short shaft installed, it barely leaves enough room for a bobbin.

Like fly rods, you can spend a lot more on a vice, but if you were
thinking about the Renzetti Master or the Dyna King Baracuda, buy the
Traveler and you'll have money left over for other gear.
