I have a look at the programmes you suggest.
I haven't changed anything on the network other than telling the
MacBook to join it. I am now using an ethernet cable to the Netgear
to connect to the internet so that is all working okay, just the Time
Capsule that is flashing amber!

maybe you have an invisible character in the ssid, also spaces are
not allowed..... is the wep or wpa security code correct?
