It's like using a phone that's missing a number? You can always dial the
operator to place your call.

It's like fixing your car and realizing you're missing a tool. You call your
friend up and wait while he brings over a 9mm socket.

Etc.

I short, your tool set is limited, which means it's harder to do what you
want to do, it's probably going to take more time to do it, you're going to
involve more people and it'll probably cost more in the long run.

BTW, I've been using iServer for nearly two years for Unix hosting. I've
surfed for other providers who offer the same (including the huge support
web site), but I'm still at iServer.
