the hardware is more than adequate.. Linux will run on a 386 with 1MB of
RAM if it really has to. give it 4 megs, and it's positively happy.
dual-booting is certainly possible, but in the language of Occam's Razor,
it multiplies entities. your life will probably be easier if you install
RedHat by itself, blow it away, and reinstall it a couple of times. that
will give you a chance to get familiar with the menus, and play with the
minutae of stuff like drive partitioning. it's a lot easier to experiment
if you can say (in sequence):
"hmm.. wonder what this would do.."
"whoa!.. that sucks."
"okay, let's start over from the beginning."
and that gets harder to do if you're trying not to blow away something else.

Dave Buckley. friend of mine from high school & college. he's a
programmer for Microsoft, but used to be a unix sysad for the university in
The Old Days. it's probably been a year since i last talked to him, but
that's not unusual for us. find him, call him, and tell him i said he's
supposed to walk you through a RedHat installation. that'll teach him to
let me out of his sight. ;-)
