You bet ya.
First, start to monitor www.slashdot.org, as you'll get almost daily
updates on the status of these suites.
GIMP is the Terminator of image processing. On a good Unix box it runs
circles around Photoshop and gives Bryce a run for its money too.
That'll come with about every Linux install now.
For text editors, presentations, etc., there are several good packages.
Many are awaiting Corel's release of their full suite, given that
WPLinux is widely acclaimed as a good product. That'll include all the
same toys as Office, and should have Office file format converters too.
Others prefer Applixware and other products. slashdot again will have
link pages, as will linux.org.
The hard decision is really which desktop environment to run it all
under. :) Look for the Linux User's Group in your area (LUG) . . .
they're everywhere now, and a great source of assistance and, often,
demos.
And while we ponder that, I have to go find out why the secretary's
win95 box is telling her she's performed an "illegal operation", and
explain that she didn't really do it, Windows did ;)
