You have a hardware problem. This machine is too big, too fast, and
has too much storage to run Linux. Linux will get lost on the machine,
turn it artificially intelligent and self combust. You need to go out to
a flea market, and buy a good 386 or 486 machine with 16 meg of RAM and a
half gig drive.... (Just kidding.)
I've run Linux on several 486 machines and several Pentiums. It will
do just fine. Many people start on Linux with an older machine that has
been relegated to the trash heap. Later, they relegate Gatsian software
to the trash heap.

Don't blame me, I shop at flea markets for a lot of things. I have,
however, learned not to buy disk drives at flea markets... Not soon
enough.
