Hi,

I know there are some sendmail masters out there. I'm having a weird problem
with reading email for an account using various client software. The
password for an account is not being accepted. Even if I change the password
from the command line and use the new password I am unable to access the
email. I know that I have all settings in my email client set right (they
have not been changed since last successful read of the email), so I'm
baffled.

One thing I tried as a workaround was:

1. create a new user
2. copy the /usr/mail/userwithproblem file over to the new user's name
3. check the copy of the mail using the newly created user account

but that would not work. When I tried to check the mailfile copy using the
client software I got an error that said something about a "lock". I also
noticed (out of the corner of my eye in an ftp list) that the file I was
trying to access had magically changed names, so it was now
.userwithproblem.lock or something like that (forgot to write it down).

Anyone have any ideas how to get around/diagnose the password problem?

Anyone know if there is some sort of checksum running with sendmail to
prevent copying mail from one account to another?

TIA,
Jack
