Yes, I am aware that some domains don't have the dub dub dub, but they are
a definite minority. In that case I would consider ibm.com as appropriate,
though for clarity one could use the ugly http://

Well, the .com and .au is essential for the URL to work. But the aich, tee,
tee, pee, colon, forward slash, forward slash is not, and I see no point in
using it. It's just 7 more characters that a novice user will have to get
exactly right, and if they miss just one they won't know where their error
lies. So why not reduce their chances of screwing up and just leave it off
all the time?
