One point I feel compelled to point out. I have been on this list for over
2 years (real time - not net years) and I have been an employee of IBM
since only November. Any comment or opinion I offer is purely my own
opinion and is not related in any way, shape or form to IBM. That is not a
formal disclaimer - my experience and knowledge go way beyond my duties at
IBM. Rignt now, they just pay my salary. For how long? Until I get bored...
And while we're on the subject, doesn't 20+ years as a multi-award winning
advertising copywriter and creative director qualify me as a
'slightly-off-the-wall-creative-type?'
Of course, your point is valid. One freelance friend of mine's stationery
had a coffee-cup ring printed on his stationery. And again I reiterate as I
always do, a general rule is just that - general. You always have to take
specific circumstances into consideration. But on your stationery would you
abbreviate your mailing address or put your full mail address on it? For
example, if you had a post office box (or whatever you call it) would you
print it as PO Box 187 or just 187. After all, it's reasonable to assume
that everyone would know it's a box number, isn't it?
As far as your web address goes, if the people you're communicating with
are old webheads then I think it's fine to just print 'webheads.com'. But
if there's any doubt about the knowledge, experience or, dare I say it,
intelligence of your audience, I think it's always best to play safe. The
old hands will remember the salient bit anyway.

frank
