Becaue I feel corporate stationery should be more formal. Ads, as Suz
pointed out, can of course be as informal as your target market. And
what about domains that don't have the www? We certainly wouldn't put
ibm.com/ on stationery - or ads either - if we didn't have the www.
Remember, although www has become widespread, it is in no way required.
Finally, remember that we on this list are an elite bunch when it comes
to things internet. If there's one thing that has truly amazed me since
joining IBM - one of the world's largest IT companies and one that has
had an intranet since when? the '70s? - is the true lack of
understanding of the internet among the vast majority of people, even
ones who are web-enabled. And I'm also amazed at the number of tv and
radio shows and ads who, when advertising their 'internet address'
painstaking spell out not just the aich, tee, tee, pee but also every
single dot and the com and the au also. Slowly, with equal emphasis on
every single syllable.
