I agree. If you register a domain and you get the notice that it was
done before 18:00 EST, it should be available to use sometime the next
day.
If you have access to a unix shell account type:
host -a domainname.com dnsserver.com
...repleacing domianname.com with the actual domain name you are
querying and dnsserver.com with the primary DNS listed in the whois
for the domain and you will find out everything about the dns listing.
