I've been thru the hoops of developing income sources from my art/craft
show search site. I'd suggest you start with Mark Welch's site
(http://www.markwelch.com/bannerad/ ) He has pages on affiliate
programs (what you're describing above), banner networks, and other
revenue vehicles.
Personally, I'm using ClickTrade, Safe Audit, and Burst - all have a
variety of pay per sale, pay per click-thru, and even the occaasional
pay per banner impression campaigns.
