As the holiday season officially goes into full swing here in the US, I'd
like to share with you what we do for the holidays. I hope it will inspire
you to find something similar that you'll enjoy doing:

DJ's, our local video store, each year displays a Christmas tree. On the
tree are paper ornaments, each providing info and a shopping list for a
child with special needs sponsored by the social services department. Last
year we chose several children who interested us and shopped for the gifts
that each child especially wanted or needed. When we took our bags of gifts
back to the pickup point at DJ's, we learned that there was still a great
need for winter coats. So, we went to a nearby Goodwill store and bought
several childrens' coats to add to the growing pile of Christmas goodies at
DJs. Last night we chose 3 more children to sponsor this Christmas.

Neither of us have children living at home, our families are quite far
away, and we don't exchange gifts between ourselves, so Dave and I could
easily let the holidays slide by unnoticed. Instead, we've really enjoyed
our new tradition of providing some joy for these anonymous children. I
hope you'll find equally rewarding way to celebrate the holidays.
