(1) intel has something like >90% market share, like MS. by any stretch of
the imagination, this is a monopoly. how many "joe sixpacks" have ever
heard of cyrix? zero. how many "main line" pcs use cyrix chips -- nada. a
few have put them in their <$1000 machines, contributing to the perception
that they are 'inferior, cheap' chips, when many folks say they are the
superior chip.
(2) more important .. intel has engaged in anti-competitive practices --
which is what is "illegal" ... not the having of a monopoly per recent case
in either NC or SC was won by the plaintiff.
