Interesting you should ask . . .
Going through that battle right now. Despite a pile of wall plaques 8
feet deep around this office that hold phd, mba, jd and a host of other
alphabet soups, there's only two of us that can write decent web
content. Running battle to get these people on board.
Had discussion with our designers the other day, and they won't touch
creative written content. Bottomless pit to them, and they have no
desire to water down otherwise successful technical and graphical
development teams by wading into editorial waters.
Which has me thinking that there's a big business hole there . . .
Turned to freelancers. There are a few good freelancers I've found (for
Foundation-specific world) that do some good work with annual reports
(which is closest printed thing I can find to website content
generally). But not as many as you'd think. Some lower end rates run
about $30-$40 an hour. I've been quoted $100+/hr for some specialized
stuff, or flat rates of around $4K to write the standard boilerplate for
annual reports (that included picture research too).
Funny how no one wants to start the content agencies, just the
production, eh?
