Not rhetorical.

What I have found so far are pretty much generalities with some good
advice. I was hoping to find someone who had a list of EXACTLY what
they do.

I find the phrase "degrade gracefully" too broad. Give me a
specific. e.g.

"We design according to HTML 4.0 standards"
"And we make sure our pages degrade gracefully"

I don't get it. How much time will you spend to make sure that your
pages degrade gracefully? How much time? How far back will you go?
Our not most standards somewhat backward compatible?

I think "degrade gracefully" is a cop-out.

If you design for 800x600 yet create your tables with percentages
rather than fixed sizes then are you "degrading gracefully"?
Perhaps, but that is just one item on the list. And what about
resolutions higher than 800x600? Do they not deserve an "upgrade
gracefully"?

I can imagine the following:

client: So you will design for the html 4.0 standards

designer: Yes.

client: and what about people using browsers that do not recognize
those standards?

designer: we will degrade the pages gracefully.

client: how much will that cost

designer: nothing, it is so easy to do and we just do it naturally.

Is this really possible?

Peter
