We also almost got roped into doing a gig on StoryServer a while ago,
and also were a bit disappointed with the lack of technical information
on it on the Web.
The best way to figure it out is to get Vignette to train you, or to set
aside a reasonable amount of time to play with it yourself before you do
anything with a production server.
Other than that, I don't have any more advice to offer; we decided that
we were better off not spending the time on a rarely implemented
platform.

Why do some software companies insist on being so opaque about their
software product documentation?
Recently, a number of customers have been asking about IBM's
Net.Commerce platform. We're trying to figure out if it's a worthwhile
platform to learn and use in production.
But enterprise level (or close to enterprise level) products require a
not insignificant chunk of time and other resources devoted to training
and to "kicking the tires."
But getting any kind of help in this respect (thus giving more money to
the software manufacturer) is like pulling teeth!

please drop me a line ASAP or call. The number is in my .sig . I've yet
to confirm the timeline for the engagement, but I'm fairly certain it
starts soon.
