I think the real reason is that the community doesn't feel empowered
to take control of those pages, and there is a huge "corporate" fear
of messing something up or offending someone if community members
themselves are allowed to play with it.  This is one of the things
that I want to fix ASAP.

Myself, I'd make it a wiki, let the OS editorial board figure
out a set of editing best practices, and then delegate to the
(core?) contributers of all the CG's the job of keeping it up to
date.  I'm not at all worried that they would do anything to the
detriment of the community or vandalize other people's work....
