No, you don't need to install anything on the systems being monitored, as long as they are running Windows 2000 or XP.  If they are running NT 4.0 you might need to install the Windows Management Instrumentation Core (WMI CORE), which is a component of Windows that comes from Microsoft.

The WhatsUp Gold Windows Events service runs only on the WUG system to act as the collector.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Installing WhatsUp Gold Windows Events service on remote servers

We have just over 100 domain controllers in our domain (one per county).  I would like to set up Whatsup Gold to monitor there security event viewer logs for authentication failures.  I know I need the WhatsUp Gold Windows Events (winevnt.exe) service running on them, however, I cannot figure out how to install it.  I have looked on ipswitch's website, but I haven't found anything about it.  Any ideas?  TIA for any help.
