As a less-technical reply, I would like to see WikiEducator have a broad range of functionality in wikitext. As a repository of OERs, WE needs to be able to accommodate all sorts of OERs including assessments, interactive activities and learner feedback. Providing these should not be any more complex or technical than publishing content.
I really appreciate that WikiEducator requires very little more than basic markup of my content to produce attractive formatting, embedded pictures and media, table of contents, complex linking, navigation, cataloging, tagging, as well as powerful search and retrieval, Like most educators, I think this is important, but should be secondary to my primary work - teaching and supporting learning. In a word, Yes, I would support adding GIFT in its current state. GIFT and similar technology additions to WE will only get better if WE use them and contribute to enhancing and/or formalizing them.
