Hi Lodewijk, I fully agree that the writing contest is not specially focused for new editors and is somehow out of the scope of WLM main goals. Just shared our experience -just in case- someone want's to try it at home ;)
We haven't decided yet if we will join WLM14 or not as a photo contest (still dealing with WLE14), but is almost sure that we will do some kind of "writing thing" related to monuments for experienced local wikipedians (diff project, diff goals) -> We need articles to paste all the great photos documented since 2011. I'll keep you informed on how it evolves.
