Hi,

An idea could be to organize a writing contest jointly at the end of the year
with the winners from all participating countries being added to a list for the
contest (like this or this). Then these articles would be translated to
different languages and improved (just like the Catalan Cultural Challenge or
the Umepedia Challenge). (If the photographed object for some reason isn't
suitable for an article of its own then the local organizers could pick a
suitable replacement.)

Would this be something to pursue further?

Cheers,

John

Subject: Re: [Wiki Loves Monuments] Minor prizes for combination of writing and
photography?

Hi Lodewijk,
I fully agree that the writing contest is not specially focused for new editors
and is somehow out of the scope of WLM main goals. Just shared our experience
-just in case- someone want's to try it at home ;)

We haven't decided yet if we will join WLM14 or not as a photo contest (still
dealing with WLE14), but is almost sure that we will do some kind of "writing
thing" related to monuments for experienced local wikipedians (diff project,
diff goals) -> We need articles to paste all the great photos documented since
2011.

I'll keep you informed on how it evolves.
Best,
@kippelboy

SuccessIt was very easy for everyone to understand it and to track it. Prove of
success is that it has been adapted in 2 other writing challenges led by other
orgs (svwiki and cywiki so far)
