I called the UCSC Conference Office, and the conditions are better than I
reported:

   - Cost: $100 / person *including* full meals (3 meals / day).
   - Space: they have availability, especially in August / early September.
   - Transportation: apparently not difficult to charter buses for peak
   periods from SFO.
