Hmmm.., I got a real beauty here to work on.
A Compaq Presario 1700 laptop, XP Home, typical college gal has a problem -
it just constantly reboots till it's shut off or booted from a CD.
I took a look at it using XpPe's Explorer which shows exactly ONE file on
the drive. It's "BDElog.txt".
The drive shows to be 20-gig with 6-gig free.
18-Gig is used, but I can't see it.
What the heck is going on here.
I checked the BIOS and the ADMIN PW is "CLEAR" (as in DEFAULT SETTING).
I thought some clown may have hidden C: from her and PW-ed it, but I can't
tell if it's a virus that's sneaked in, a malfunctioning hard drive (lost
the MBR?) or the goofy work of some fool that likes to foul up the works.
Any ideas.
I hate to lose all the stuff on the drive without trying to repair a funky
boot record or something.
Where would I/you start?
Bruce (The Clueless One)
P.S.
Please hurry, I need to get some yard work done too, before the wife gets
mad at me...
