>What might attribute to this? Lots of things. The only way to zero in on a performance issue is with lots and lots of information.
For starters: Was it always this way? Is there hard drive activity before/during this delay? What does CPU usage look like before/during this delay? (Taskmgr.exe) How much memory (RAM)? How much free memory? (Taskmgr.exe) Is Fast User switching (FUS) enabled? If so, is there more than one user session active? What kind of add-on devices are installed - externally or internally? (besides keyboard/mouse/video-card/monitor/hard drive/NIC/modem) Are antivirus and anti-spyware programs installed and up to date? Which ones? Does the system scan cleanly with those tools? (I'm barely getting started... but I'll pause here and see if you want to continue this...) -----Original Message----- From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jim Dykes Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 12:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Computer Slow on Shut Down When I hit Start/Turn Off Computer, I've noticed it taking a few seconds to open the next box. The computer isn't a speed demon (1.8Ghz I think), but it seems it should not take so long. I'm using XP-Home SP2. What might attribute to this?
