I never pay much more than that... ($40-US)

It is obviously not a "top of the line" drive,
they generally come with bare bones software (if any),
and lots of times some reviewer somewhere slammed it,
or they made too many and/or newer ones are out,
the list of things that effect supply and demand (and price)
are endless...

If I can find a trusted brand that I know will burn
well, and can live with what-ever the low price reason
is, then I have "always" taken the plunge...
(And at $40, how much can you loose...)
I always TRY TO get ones I can return, which means they
can be had locally in large stores at that price on occassion...

I run a drive a year, and buy the next $40 one and try it out...

Clipped, but Quoting not fixed to include the >>> stuff...
(IMHO - That is caused on your end, not mine...)
