I'm also looking at getting a new system at the end of this year/start of
2007 -

Hopefully, I'll manage to wait till Vista is shipped.
If not - then it's going to have to be XP Pro, or the Media version

Hardware - 2Gb memory to work with whatever processor is at a reasonable
price by then
( Check with Toms Hardware - Upsetting review of DDR2 memory in the last
issue )
 PCI-x variants on the motherboard

19" TFT screen,

2 IDE ports and 4, or 6 SATA 2 rated @ 300
Firewire

4, but preferably 6 USB - is there a new spec due soon
( 6 so I can set separate ones for the things I will use most frequently
to avoid the system dropping one driver when I use a port for a different
device
Raid on the S-ATA - or perhaps an add in board on a PCI-x16 connection
 - considerations as to speed of having add-ins on concurrently functioning
PCI-x or built-in on asynchronously working buss

Laser printer,
Inkjet? colour scanner copier fax picture printer
Video Camera
webcam
USB,or Firewire 'backup' hard drive
USB connected card/floppy drive - hopefully I will be able to boot from the
floppy, and /or stick/memory card
Svid Output for display onto a large HD TV screen
4? channel TV tuner/recorder

Oh the list goes on..
Only thing then will be build it all from separately purchased components,
or get a package deal, and put the components in a better case, with a good
power supply
