Honestly, do you think you are the typical user? most people don't need the
upsell and overpay for bandwidth they rarely use. I use my 5mbps only
occassionally - for most of our use, 1.5 was sufficent. I got it because it
has a higher upload speed and i do occassionally download files from MSDN
and they said it was the same price as my 1.5 contract - instead of
demanding the same price as the current 1.5 mbps contract, i took the new
speed for no change in price. It also came with a new modem and my drop offs
mostly ended with the new modem and new speed. Not sure which was to blame
though...
Phil watches more news videos because they are faster - it hasn't changed my
usage any and i can't tell a diff with MLB.TV or XM online streams.

Marc's take: Broadband Speed Overkill!!?? Heck I need all the speed I can
get with my Comcast HSI for multiple
video streams of movie trailers and downloading legal mp3 files and free
TV shows from Google. Do they have any idea how big those mpeg or
mov(Quicktime) files are? Anywhere between 200MB or bigger depending on what
codec they use to encode the files and how long the show is. I don't even
sometimes bother to view the streams only if they are 5 minutes or less
which also takes up bandwidth on the network. I am among those people who
fall in that 14% of people who need the 3Mbps and up bandwidth and who are
willing to pay the price ONLY if the survice and support are good and worth
the price.
