Andy,
I found A MSVCR70.dll in his Windows/System32 folder. Presumably 70 & 71
can reside safely in the same folder?

You can download a version of msvcr71.dll at:
<http://www.dll-download.net/msvcr71.html>
BUT it may not be the version that is needed by all the wounded
applications. MS no longer considers the dll to be a "system" file, which
is why MS recommends putting an app's version in that app's installed
folder.
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326922>
"The shared CRT DLL has been distributed by Microsoft in the past as a
shared system component. This may cause problems when you run applications
that are linked to a different version of the CRT on computers that do not
have the correct versions of the CRT DLL installed. This is commonly
referred to as the "DLL Conflict" problem.
To address this issue, the CRT DLL is no longer considered a system file,
therefore, distribute the CRT DLL with any application that relies on it.
Because it is no longer a system component, install it in your
applications Program Files directory with other application-specific code.
This prevents your application from using other versions of the CRT
library that may be installed on the system paths."

A friend has handed me his Sony Vaio laptop for some help. He installed
Pest Trap about 4 days ago and has now found a number of applications do
not work. When I checked these applications they all return a cannot
find MSVCR71.dll message. When I checked MSFT they tell me this is a C++
component (?). They also suggest it needs to be in the directory files
of each application + the system directory. Can someone help me out with
this process? Also I would do a simple restore to before Pest Trap was
installed but I get the error message there also.
