I've read the knowledge base article and I know that the file in question
MSVCR71.DLL as stated in my original post has different versions. As I've
acknowledged in that post its hard to distinguish the diffrences between
versions
and even the timestamp is of no help. Even If there are two different versions
of the same file MSVCR71.DLL that have a timestamp of 7:01am and the other with
diffrent timestamp of 7:01pm with the same date there's no way accurately
varify which is the most current.
Even if they had the same date of 07/01/05 with the timestamps of 7:01pm and
18:01 in 12 or 24-hour formats respectively it still wouldn't work in
distingushing
which is current simply becuase 7:01pm is simply 18:01 hours in 24-hour format.
IMHO for me I find it safest to place the file in C:\Windows\System32
becuase its where the kernel of Windows XP lives and its also where Office
and some non-microsoft apps install those dll files.
BTW don't assume that just becuase Microsoft recommends installing the file
or any file into an apps directory doesn't always mean its the correct way.
That material could be out of date AFAIK.

No, again that is ***NOT*** correct. Read the MSKB again.
To paraphrase: MS recommends installing the MSVRT71.DLL file
***that comes with the application*** into the application's
Program Folder. ***DO NOT ASSUME*** the MSVRT71.DLL file will
be in the Windows\System32 folder, and if there is one there,
***DO NOT ASSUME*** that it will be the correct version.
Just because it ***APPEARS*** to have worked in this case, it
is ***NOT CORRECT*** !!!
