Then some one has given me incorrect or contridictory information
I appologize for that. I do agree that its not correct to copy the MSVCR71.DLL
file into apps directories. So just copying one instance to the 
C:\Windows\system32
is the best way to go.

No, it is ***NOT*** correct to copy the same file to each app's 
directory. One app MIGHT use a slightly different version of 
the MSVRT71.DLL file. If you copy the wrong one into that apps 
folder, guess what will happen...
