You seem to have it narrowed down to the MB, so what is different?
What are the MB model & revision, -- and BIOS revision numbers?
Are they the exact same MB revision? Same BIOS version?

Do both (or all) MBs ID the CPU chipset correctly? (When you get that far.)
I had one suddenly NOT recognize the CPU after about two years
of use and NO changes (to the CPU) in that time.

Does the BIOS have a setting (buried deep) for resetting the configuration
data? NOT anything to do with the HDs, OR reset to defaults, safe, or
optimized, this is somewhere else on mine.
I use Phoinx/Award v6. (I know them better.)

I have three VERY similar boards that are all different engineering revisions
of the same model number. This makes their BIOS flashs different.
So basically, they are like apples and oranges. ;-)
I had to give this box a number of my own to keep them separate... (#7)...

I had to fight a BIOS recently to recognize switching in and out HDs,
of all things... AND the BIOS was set to go find them and configure them
automatically... They were all set to cable select, could and do use that,
and the cable is 80 wire and in good condition. They were different brands.
I'm thinking they were "too close" to each other, slipped through the detection
cracks, and then could not be used since it was not "quite right"...
This has happened to me more INSIDE Windows with slight hardware
changes that were not detected at some level, so I guess that just happened
in a BIOS too... (Magic...)

I had to tell the MB to go and find ALL the hardware, and it worked like
a charm...

Try to give the list the info in the first to paragraphs, Thanks.
Links from my BIOS maker lead me to a BIOS detection program that will
extract that info for you if you don't want to do the heavy lifting yourself...

Scenario:- Two machines, Identical mainboards, one with a Celeron 800 and the other with a Celeron 1100. Machine with 1100 cpu simply quits ! No post, nothing. I replace the cpu from the other machine (800 cpu) Machine now boots and runs fine !

Ok I pull a Celeron 1100 from another (Third) machine, stick it in ! No boot !!

I put the original Celeron 1100 in the machine I borrowed the 800 from !! It boots and works fine. I double checked by putting the second 1100 cpu in and that works fine too !!

I am at a loss as to what the problem could be ! It has got to be the mainboard, but what ! I must be doing something silly............ But I haven't a clue what. Any Ideas ?
