I agree. The last time I tried a Linux variant (about a year ago),
it was hit or miss whether your printer, modem, and graphics card
were supported. In order to change screen resolution, I had to 
hand edit some obscure file in some weird folder (/etc/something).
I'm sorry, but Linux has a long way to go before it catches up to the
ease of user interface found in Windows XP.
