Great points, Arlene. I'm also thinking that you are in agreement with the
idea that downtown is a poor location for the jail based more on image and
poor use of prime retail space vs. stereotype of Huber inmates? The former
ambulance bldg. is also in the midst of a busy retail center (as anyone
trying to go to Winona B & B or Rochester Wholesale Fruit on a Sat. am knows
all too well!)

I agree it is a shame to spend money to remodel a space for housing if it
has not been historically used for housing. With the shortage of lower rent
housing in SE MN, I think it is a shame to have any unused housing space,
hence my thoughts about the Bethany House. I think Paul had some good
points about that as well. On the other hand, since housing is so sparse,
options may be limited for finding suitable space without having to adapt it
for this use.

What do others think?
