The Shakespeare Festival Directors have quite the impressive resumes. Between the three of them I've no doubt they've worked at almost every professional Shakespeare Festival in North America and Great Britain.
I've had the pleasure of getting to know Mark Hauck (one of the Directors) a bit over the last few months and have been very impressed with how organized this group is. They have a good Board of Directors, and have done some great research on how to fit this into the Winona Community in the best way possible. I think some amazing things are going to take place in Winona because of this Festival.

Has anyone in the Shakespeare Festival group been to Stratford, Ontario, Canada? That community has been doing it for about 40 years and may be able to provide some valuable information and some ideas worth copying. I believe they were one of the first in North America to do so.

Also, the vision for the Grand Excursion includes a possible floating stage on the Mississippi where audiences could watch shows from the levy -- including Winona's new annual Shakespeare festival starting next summer. That would be a great (and unique) venue for many things if it becomes permanent. The Shakespeare festival could also provide a good foundation to build a broader tourism effort around.
