[Winona Online Democracy] I love that one, Paul. And we can get local cabinet and furniture makers, woodcarvers and other master woodworkers to be the foundation of the cooperative--maybe even some of the Lumber Baron heirs might help with a foundation? We could have our local playwrights and theater du Mississippi create shows with a lumbering theme and stage them in the old theater in the Masonic Temple. The showa could rotate with the seasons or years. There are some pretty racy stories from Winona's history that might lend themselves to comedy.
I wonder what the critical mass of people investing in or getting behind a particular theme might be to improve the chances of success? It seems that if we, as a community, get behind it, that folks would be attracted here or could also be systematically recruited through professional and trade organizations. The downtown merchants are already doing a great job working together--the old fashioned Christmas last year was so wonderful and I thought downtown was dressed up better than I remember. They've begun something to really build upon, I think.
