One additional point on the gay marriage issue is what the MA court ruling 
said.  Their reasoning is that by not allowing gay marriage the government 
is discriminating and creating a class of second class citizens.  Civil 
unions would be an attempt at "separate but equal" laws that haven't worked 
so well in the past.  Polygamy would therefore not be allowed under the same 
reasoning.
