>Polygamy and Incest are both straw man arguments. The Supreme Court
overturned Sodomy Laws - not laws about gay marriage (I think the majority
decision even explicitly said that the SCOTUS decision was NOT addressing
gay marriage).

>The arguments against interracial marriages are more comparible to the
arguments against gay marriage.

Bob:

Eva is one smart lady. She is the person I was thinking of this afternoon
while I was wondering where all the real republicans are on this issue.
Hello, Libertarians...are you out there anywhere? When are you going to
come out and be on the right side of this issue? Eva is the only person who
came to mind when I was trying to tag a real republican that I actually
knew. Some one who stood for individual liberty, personal responsibility,
free enterprise, and dedication to progress. There are many real
conservatives hanging around, but I see very few real republicans these
days. And the libertarians are AWOL.

Back to Eva:

>As far as the issue of whether Republicans will use this issue to go after
Democrats. Some will try to do so - and others will be against using this
strategy. I find it telling that Governor Pawlenty avoided mention of this
topic in the state of the state.

Bob again:

I, too, think this is interesting. Soccer moms may vote homeland security,
but they don't vote against their friends (straight women and gay men go way
back). Pawlenty's suburban base won't flock to this one.

Eva:

>I'm curious though - will using this issue as a major election issue help
or hurt candidates in Winona?

Bob:

That's we want to know, too. So far Speaker Swiggum (R-Kenyon) and Greg
Davids (R-Preston) are the only Winona area legislators to make any public
comment...that is to the best of my knowledge. I am very interested to see
what we hear from Gene Pelowski (D-Winona) on this. I would imagine the
goal of most legislators is to not talk about it at all. I'm guessing
Pelowski, Kierlin, and Murphy are all in that camp.

Certainly no large demonstrations in Central Park for or against the
amendment.
