Polygamy and Incest are both straw man arguments. The Supreme Court overturned Sodomy Laws - not laws about gay marriage (I think the majority decision even explicitly said that the SCOTUS decision was NOT addressing gay marriage).

The arguments against interracial marriages are more comparible to the arguments against gay marriage.

As far as the issue of whether Republicans will use this issue to go after Democrats. Some will try to do so - and others will be against using this strategy. I find it telling that Governor Pawlenty avoided mention of this topic in the state of the state.

I'm curious though - will using this issue as a major election issue help or hurt candidates in Winona?
