There is another reason why we need gay marital rights: Children.
Gay people need marital rights so they can have adequate health care
protection for the children they raise. They need equality for their family
so that either partner can sign for vital emergency services or even for
field trip visits. They need equal parental rights so that if one parent
dies, the other partner will be able to keep the family together.
You can argue about who is the "best" parent, and I'll argue that there
are plenty of heterosexual families that are dysfunctional.
Protect the kids and let them have a home equal to others with loving,
supportive parents.--Ruth Charles
