[Winona Online Democracy]
I only have an opinion on this as the editor of the Winonan, the WSU students newspaper and because I'm sick of listening to people, college students, complain about this -- despite the fact that no one realizes that high school kids don't have rights.
Now, the problem isn't your daughters; it isn't women; it isn't even the button. The problem is that by wearing the button, the word "vagina" will have 300 of Winona Senior High's "finest" laughing and disrupting class because someone is wearing something that says "vagina" and that's apparently funny.
You're at school to learn, not to wear a button that says vagina so you can prove some point that no one cares about because they're too busy laughing at the fact that someone is wearing a button that says vagina. I don't gamble, but I'd bet that only a small handful of kids actually care about the statement Rethlefson is trying to make.
That's the point everyone in this town seems to be missing.
