[Winona Online Democracy]

I would be as in favor of that as i would of the original argument. I
had said earlier that in order to be in favor of free speech what you
really need to be in favor of is people voicing opinions you may not
agree with or believe are factual etc... I admittedly stole most of
that idea from a Noam Chomsky lecture i had read recently but I
couldn't agree more. I don't' think the question you really want to
pose is if some boy had a button saying i love vagina's. What I think
you are getting at is the voicing of an opinion that exists but for
some reason is frowned upon in our culture. I for one think there
would be nothing wrong with a heightened sense of sexual awareness at
a high school level. If all of these sexual undertones that exist
within our culture (i would argue even more so within a state of
puberty) were brought out I think it would have a positive impact on
peoples self images. I also think it would help with thoughts like
this. Let's say that a boy has this "i love vagina" button, and he
wears it too school the same day as a girl decides to wear a "i love
penis" button. Which do you think would get more attention? Do you
think they would both be thought of the same? I would definitely say
not. So I guess in a long winded way (sorry), my point is that it's
an opinion and it's theirs to express. The fact that it's dealing
with sexuality is what brings up all kinds of "decency" arguments, but
it's her right to express what she feels as much as it would for any
boy to do the same with a button expressing his sexuality.
