Up isn't the issue, have to have a good enough side angle to see one of the
satellites. If you're in a "holler" even the sun doesn't  shine.  Shade or
dark 23.5 hours a day.  Happens to me in some areas of Tennessee too.  Steep
mountains or hills on both sides and  no where to look but straight up.  I
understand that Sirius has some ground based repeaters in some well
populated areas that have this "canyon" issue.  Speaking of which, bad
reception in so called "Urban Canyons" as well, large cities with tall
buildings. I believe is was the New York city area that I heard used a fair
amount of repeaters.
