Hi guys,
There's a few reasons why Macworld was/is a little more important than a
PC conference. One point was made that PC expos tend to be larger and
have more competing products. Another is that PC expos are broken up a
little differently. We're interested more in Internet and web
development expos, rather than hard drive and video card expos. PC expos
tend to be hardware havens.
That said, Macworld I believe just presented itself at the right place
at the right time. Mac people love Mac OS X and are taking advantage of
all the new software coming out for it. In fact, Witango has a great
spot in this market. WE also knows that the Macintosh versions tended to
fall behind the PC versions. This is no longer true, Windows and Mac OS
X server and studio are all current and barring a problem should be
released concurrently. (There's an footnote here that Mac OS X is still
lacking a few mature-OS features and this prohibits some feaures from
making it into that platform, but those items are being addressed by
Apple and WE)
There's also some truth in the fact that Mac loyalists are very likely
to upgrade and use/push the product. We all know that Tango did poorly
in the enterprise market and it's going to take a lot to fight back in
situations like that on the PC side. Because Macintosh servers were
typically asked to do less work, they continued to make use of Tango to
this day. Now that OS X has changed that thinking, Witango 5 is there to
serve the needs of people taking their xServs towards the enterprise
space.
Sooner or later we know that we're going to have to go head to head with
the competition, like Cold Fusion. We're still just picking our battles
carefully. Comdex, which is being setup by Ian, would be a great step.
There's some chatter about InternetWorld and things of that nature.
I can't emphasise enough that this is just the very beginning of what we
all hope and believe will be great product with a great life.
