As I already wrote in my forum in reply to Max, I don't want to loose time and
create problems so I'll drop this discussion.

  Hi Paolo

"You are violating copyright of a database, consisting of map names, coding,
coordinates."
As Max stated already on your bware.it forum, it is not possible to copyright
geographical coordinates. Do you want us to rename the maps!? I think "UK" for
example is an abbreviation for the "United Kingdom" and I doubt that you would
have the right to copyright that name.

"No difference from distributing any other database on the web without
permission."
Let me quote what you said in a previous mail to me and max: "In any case, I
am willing to let you use them."

  "The WORK is creating templates."
  1) Define the four boundaries for the map. 2) Choose a name.

"Checking that coords are ok, expecially lat-lon and negatives, always
inverted, and so on."
Not sure what you are telling me here... our map generation script is
checking for all of that automatically, don't you do it the same way?!

"Not big work? Then do it yourself. For me, it was a big work."
We would, but then again you are currently the only one that has the OSM data
in a suitable format and until that has changed we use your data, which is
allowed due to the Creative Commons License.

"I don't have to think too much about it. This is not GPL, you are simply
violating copyrights and I will prosecute it."
You are right, this is not GPL, this is Creative Commons. If you forgot about
it already let me quote that again:
"You are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt our maps and data, as
long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors. If you alter or build
upon our maps or data, you may distribute the result only under the same
licence."

This means that all your map files that include OSM data, also have to be
published under the Creative Commons License and therefore we are allowed to
copy, adapt and distribute them. Feel free to read up on it
(http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright) and prosecute it... Let me just remind
you that your LKM files still have no Credits to the OSM project...

Let me tell you that our download page now shows your name beneath every
download link of a derived map. I hope that this will make you happy again and
we can stop this funny little flame war here.

  Greets,
  Turbo

First of all, there was no copyright notice in the templates. Second of
all, I have my doubts that map boundaries can be copyrighted.

As I mentioned earlier, map boundaries are not something that can be
copyrighted. And besides your "templates" we use nothing but the shapefiles
which are under the Creative Commons License.

Nope. Sorry, but I don't see the point in you giving us a lecture about
copyrights after what you've pulled off in the last year... Think about it!

I don't have to think too much about it. This is not GPL, you are simply

I am really surprised by your reaction on this whole matter. After all,
everything we do here is for our personal happiness and if others can benefit
from that, Great! I don't see the point in fighting each other...

After all, the whole story can be described like that:

      - Some people created XCSoar
      - XCSoar was made open source under the GPL
      - You forked from XCSoar, creating LK8000 (also GPL after some time)
      - You created valueable maps under the Creative Commons License
      - We wanted to give our users the possibility to use your freely
available maps and activated the use of *.LKM files
      - We noticed that your LKM files don't contain terrain and that the zoom
threshold levels are modified to fit your software
      - We created GeoJP2 terrain based on your LKM files
      - We modified the zoom levels
      - We packed everything as XCM files
      - We published them on our website giving you credit in the info.txt file
included in every single XCM file

I think that I've made our position on this whole matter clear enough. If
you have still any questions feel free to ask!

Ok, you are not obliged to ask for authorization to use openstreet
maps, and
in fact you did not ask for it.

But Templates ?? You copied all templates, copyrighted work of mine,
and
people will access my database of templates on xcsoar map site.
No asking, no reporting of authors, no permissions, nothing.

It looks like you are simply using LKmaps topology. False: you are
using the
whole LKmaps database, including templates, text files,
which are not free stuff and in any case - again - I have never been
asked
        for an authorization.

Then I go on the xcsoar web site, no mention to lk, to me, to anyone.

Remove all my templates and copyrighted stuff at once!

          Hi everyone,

the days of using our broken terrain generator are finally over!
We have created a set of pregenerated maps for almost all the
important
gliding areas. The maps are based on the LK8000 maps and therefore
use the same topology, that is taken from the the OpenStreetMap
project
(http://www.openstreetmap.org). You can download the maps from the
          following webpage:

            http://www.xcsoar.org/download/maps/

Here is a short feature list of our map files:

            - Use of GeoJP2 format for terrain information
-> much faster then plain DEM

            - Use of OpenStreetMap data for topology information
-> more accurate highways, rivers, cities, ...
-> Correct city names (compared to vmap0, which we used before)
-> Basic population-based drawing priority for city names

          Have fun with the maps!
