Howdy,
"By the letter of the law though, we should be attributing the upstream authors
too, no rush, but I suggest we create a Map Attribution page that we link to,
as listing each author on the links may get unusably long :-)"
Could you explain that a little further?! Not sure if I understood that...
Sorry if I didn't explain very well.
"If you want to use OpenStreetMap, you will have to give credit to both
OpenStreetMap and the license (CC-by-SA). See Legal FAQ on information how to
do this properly."
So any derived work incorporating OSM data, must have that, no matter how far
upstream the data was procured.
Here is the specifics from the site:
* If you are using OpenStreetMap data only, we request that your credit reads
at least "Map data (c) OpenStreetMap (and) contributors, CC-BY-SA".
* Where possible, 'OpenStreetMap' should be hyperlinked to
http://www.openstreetmap.org/, and CC-BY-SA to
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ . If you are using a medium
where links are not possible (e.g. a printed work), we suggest you direct your
readers to www.openstreetmap.org (perhaps by expanding 'OpenStreetMap' to this
full address) and to www.creativecommons.org
* This credit needs to appear in a place "reasonable to the medium or means you
are utilising". In other words, you should expect to credit OpenStreetMap in
the same way and with the same prominence as would be expected if you were
using any other map supplier.
Of course, any other data pulled in, such as the waypoint files (each
unfortunately have their own license when getting from the World Turnpoint
Database, although in this case it may be that the files can't be copyrighted,
which would make them public domain). But there is other data in there too.
Anyway, I was thinking we create a page, something like '/info/maps' (anything
really) where we put in information we know. Then if Paul, or OSM people, or
anyone else contact us about missing info, we can simply add it to that page.
It is a bit like the separate file we now have for the source code.
Thanks Tobias.
