To be fair, there was nothing similar available when Christian started SIP, and he really filled an urgent need for many glider pilots in the alps. Also the quality of the data (presentation, updates etc.) is second to none, and the price (19E for the online version I think) is not prohibitive to any glider pilot in central Europe. I think it would be great to have this information available in XCSoar, but respecting the copyright on the database is not only a legal question, but also a matter of common sense for us pilots flying in the alps. If this data was widely distributed without paying for it, it would not be available in the future. Still, I see no reason why one could not buy membership, legally download the html files and extract the data for use in XCSoar (maybe with the help of some tool). There are other sites (http://www.landewiesen.at/map_nav.html), but they are not on the same level with SIP. If this changes with the help of thousands of XCSoar users - great!
