Jan 16, 2013; 10:55am — by "Claus-W. Häbel" Hi, not that bad, but
What about just creating a new Infobox-Page for that?? Wouldn 't be that a very easy idea?? claus ************************************************************* In short, yes. Henrik's proposal is a very good duplication of the LX5000/7000 solution, I am not sure if that was his intention, but that is what it suggests to me. However most of the solution already exists in XCSoar and can be improved to deliver the same functionality without the literal duplication and increase in NAV setups. I have been flying with an LX5000 since it was introduced. When I started using XCSoar I naturally tried to find the LX equivalent solutions to which I had become accustomed. I did run an alternates page as Claus has suggested that I called PANIC, i.e. It looks like I may be running into trouble time to focus on the best solution for this problem, switch to PANIC screen. The waypoints in ALT1 and ALT2 are not selectable which makes this solution ineffective. XCSoar equivalents to LX functions: LX Task screen XCSoar NAV menu and INFO boxes enable programming and display of task parameters on a moving map. LX Turnpoint screen XCSoar turnpoint list and GOTO function. LX Airport screen XCSoar turnpoint list and GOTO function. LX Near airports screen XCSoar displays reachable airports in green and displays height difference above or below safety arrival height on a label attached to the airport. LX Quick turnpoint (assign current postion as a turnpoint) No XCSoar equivalent function exists. Simplest solution would be to adapt the thermal marker function to include an option to mark the location as a landing field. LX adds the Quick turnpoint to the turnpoints file, I can't see any reason why XCSoar shouldn't do the same. The major element that is missing is a selectable ALT1and ALT2 waypoint. Instead of adding a whole new NAV menu it would be simpler to add a setup function to the ALT info box similar to other info boxes, e.g. MC/MANUAL. Before proceeding it would be a good idea to examine the objective or reason to include this function. My conclusion: Navigation to a safe landing before task conclusion. An aid to making a tactical task decision. To provide postion information to a third party. There are undoubtedly other objectives or reasons but maybe none that would require a new NAV menu. I like the simple click, tap on the NAV markers in the top right of the screen to select the desired waypoint but I am not happy with the change of focus and the additional screen clutter. I would suggest a long click on the waypoint info box to open the setup dialog and include a GOTO button. To recognize when navigation to an ALT waypoint has been selected I would suggest a change in color, i.e. when ALT info boxes are included on an INFO PAGE, active waypoint info box background is assigned a color, maybe green when above safety arrival and orange or red when below, same as the final glide bar. Main thing is to indicate clearly without ambiguity which waypoint is active. Henrik has envisaged an elegant way to execute the alternates solution but I do not see the need for the extra Nav menus and screen elements. The alternates above do not add any more elements to the current XCSoar screen and info boxes, but still accomplish the end objective.
